Illinois revs up more EV incentives amid federal uncertainties | Crain's Chicago Business

The Illinois incentive program, passed as part of the Climate & Equitable Jobs Act in 2021, predates the federal incentives included in the Inflation Reduction Act in 2022. Illinois allocates a limited amount of money each fiscal year for EV rebates during a limited window. This year, there is $14 million available, or enough for about 3,500 EVs at $4,000. (A $1,500 rebate is available for e-motorcycles.) Applications are available through April 30.

Feds Award Illinois $114M for EV charging expansion statewide

Illinois hydrogen project gets initial federal funding

The Midwest Alliance for Clean Hydrogen has inked a contract with the Department of Energy for $22.2 million to start planning a Midwest hydrogen hub. The multistate hydrogen project called MachH2 could involve up to a $1 billion investment over a dozen years and create more than 12,000 jobs. The goal is to demonstrate how hydrogen fuel cells might work at commercial scale. Illinois plays a central role in the regional project, which also includes Iowa, Indiana and Michigan.

Illinois Makes First NEVI Charging Awards

JB Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Transportation announced $25.3 million in grants to build charging stations along interstate corridors through the initial round of funding made available from the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program. A total of 37 projects throughout the state were chosen in this first round of NEVI funding, which will facilitate the construction of 182 new charging ports. Selected locations will have at least four DC fast charging ports, each of which can fully charge a typical EV from empty in less than 30 minutes.
